INTERNSHIP

As an internship student, the internship I completed had 3 projects. The first project was Hako Gallery which entailed organising a room renovation for a home office within a budget which can be delivered in a box and easily set up. After conducting research into how people were working during lockdown in Japan, and what their needs were, I chose a biophilic design for the home office. The second project was to design a restaurant in Japan. Because there were 3 restaurants participating and 4 intern students, I was in a role of assistant as I felt my language skill could be useful to the group. I assisted with researching in different areas such as finding retail space, looking into the markets of restaurant supply, and other expenses. I also assisted with their presentation to the Japanese staff. It was a great leaning experience watching the other students develop their designs. The 3rd project was to assist with real projects, which I found challenging, but also enjoyed the opportunity to collaborate with staff in Japan and learn new things.

As an internship assistant, the second internship program was quite different as it only had one large project (town redevelopment) with more students from different areas of study. My role was to conduct meetings in the evenings, follow up on tasks, and reporting back to my supervisor David. I had also translated documents for their research and assisted with interviews and presentations.
